Greetings! I have a Statictics question that I'm hoping someone can answer. I'm trying to back-out the answer from the BDF but I'm not quite sure what I'm doing.

I have a sampling of an event whose probability is unkown and I'm trying to determine the minimum sample size and minimum successes required to ensure the probability is greater than or equal to a certain level.

Some explanation: I perform some calculations to predict with a 95% DOC that a certain filter will reverse direction for the next draw. For some of the filters, the calculations are not as reliable as the 95% DOC implies because they are based on a small sample size of an event whose underlying probability is unkown but is likely in the range of 75% to 99%. I'm trying to fine-tune my prediction of filter reversals by ignoring any projected filter reversal that does not have enough "data" to back it up (i.e. does not have a minimum of X successes in Y trials). I tried using the BDF to calculate DOC's for various sample sizes for a range of probabilities but all I did was confuse myself.

Any thoughts?

I finally unconfused myself thanks to Wikipedia! I use the "Binomial Test" and vary the probability until I find probability that gives me a 95% DOC. If I can't get to 95% I conclude there is not enough data to determine the underlying probaility.
